Driving Again...

Before yesterday, I could not remember when I did it last...Drive, that is. Before yesterday, I haven't really driven a car in three years. I had outgrown my need for personal transportation and have oddly grown lazily attached to the ideal of public transport - that is, i'm not the one driving.

My wife had been looking for someone to build an owner-type jeep for her. Well, not actually for her. My mother-in-law asked she represent her. My biyenan is in the US, but she wants to have a jeep ready when she comes home early next year. So after weeks of looking for an assembler (as they are called here), we finalized a deal with one that had a shop a few kilometers from where we live. We were supposed have a jeep assembled from scratch, but as it turned out we ended up buying the jeep he used as a sample of his work. We bargained and haggled for a few days and finally agreed on a good price. I figured he must need the money. He has standing orders and workers to pay, after all. Yesterday, we took the jeep home. In the meantime, it stays in our garage. And in the meantime, its under my wife's name.

My wife is actualy wondering why I seem reluctant to drive the thing. It has more to do with my confidence in my driving skills. It is true that once you learn how you don't forget. But it's also true that you loose the feel for it. Another thing -I don't feel safe driving jeeps. I feel more secure (and confident) driving cars. Blame it on the flimsy doors - LOL. But seriously, It'll take a few weeks to settle in. And since gas costs a lot more these days, I'll have a valid excuse for not using it.
