Product Quality - From Bad to Worse

Quality Control for Dummies Gone are the days when brands actually meant something and warranties were fancy enhancements. It seems that everything I buy these days has a defect of some kind. So I'd bravely say brands are no more than names now and warranties a necessity. Make sure that before you buy any product, read online for reviews, ask in forums and ask people you know about what you're going to buy. Caveats were so cliche just a few years ago, but now buyers must really beware. Cases in point:
  • Samsung SGH-E590 bought in early November, broke in a matter of days, mysteriously lost ability to send or receive calls or text. Battery also started heating up even on standby. Took a month to replace. Replacement unit broke again some 3 weeks ago and no news from the repair shop as to whether they can get parts to fix it. There goes at least 2 months lost in repair and replacement. I'm never buying a Samsung again...Ever.
  • Edimax BR6226N, bought 3 weeks ago, broke after a long password was set and advanced firewall settings and WPA2 encryption enabled. 2nd and 3rd replacements had the same fate. I'm never buying an Edimax again...Ever.
  • Rear hydraulic shocks for my old Kia Pride, installed a week and a half ago. Found it leaking fluid bit by bit last Sunday. Brought the car in for repair this morning, won't have it till tomorrow. Didn't see what brand it was, so I can't say I'm not buying that again...Ever.
If I wanted to waste more of my hard-earned money, I'd send that Dummies book overhead to everyone who's ever been related to the suffering I've had with the recent stuff I bought. Grrrr......
