Smart Wap Mail - Lights Out

You're probably wondering what i meant by the title. Well,i'm stuck at home. Power was cut off really early, around 7am. I was hoping to go online today to finish up on stuff i needed to do online but my mom said the power outage will last till 6pm. What a downer. Good thing i got my phone back. At least i could blog thru my phone. It's a pain on the thumb but it's all i've got at the moment. This'll have to do. Anyway,i'll compose a proper entry once the power comes back on. Ciao! I've got a text message.

Tossing

You may have noticed that my blog has been in a state of neglect.
Proof of that is the rarely updated list of links and missing
graphics. Then there's the not so often rant. I've lost that love for
going online. I've lost the joy. I spend countless hours surfing
aimlessly through the vast seas of the world-wide web, hoping to find
some bit of inspiration. Alas, none could be found, more often than
not. Well, I need to do something to feel alive again. I need to
tackle the gritty reality that is my neglected blog. Why have I
forsaken thee???

Rather than tame the behemoth that my blog's html has become, I'm
opting to start anew. I'm looking for a blog template I can use that
suits the mood of my blog and life. It'll have to be something
compatible with Blogger too. I've decided to stay here. This feels
like home to me now. All its needs now is sprucing up and she'll be
good as new.

More Updates

I've neglected my blog. I'm making up by adding a few stuff in here. If you notice a thing under the posts, that's a random quote generator from RavenBlack.com. I also signed-up for a BlogSnob account to get this blog advertised for free.

I also discovered through my daily Googling a site that saved a beta-design for Google.com called GoogleX. Apparently, the design was pulled because it looked too much like Mac OS X. Not to me though. It's a bit similar to OS X, but it's still very Google. I included a discreet link to GoogleX in my sidebar, right below the regular Search Google window.

A also updated my links list with two new websites. Ever wanted to search the yellow pages or the whitepages online? Mowzy on over to E-yellow pages and White Pages. But please, don't stalk anyone. If you're a music-minded pinoy (know anyone who isn't?), visit PinoyChords.com.

Now to get back to my downloads! Ciao!

Spare Me Your Cycles

Want to help humankind without lifting a finger? Well..... almost,
that is. You still have to type on your keyboard and click the mouse
to download these two programs. I'm talking about two href="http://www.answers.com/distributed%20computing">distributed-computing
projects called href="http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/">SETI@home and
folding@home.

SETI@home is
a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the
Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (hence the acronym, SETI). You participate by running a screensaver that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data
in the background. That just means that when the screensaver is
running it uses your computer to crunch numbers. It stops when you
decide to use your computer. Read more about it here: href="http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/learnmore.html">http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/learnmore.html.

folding@home is a bit more down to earth (excuse the pun). Its a distributed computing
project which studies protein folding, the biochemical process that
assembles the building blocks of life (or at least that how i
understand it). Why is folding so important then? Diseases like
Alzheimer's disease, cystic fibrosis, BSE (Mad Cow disease), an
inherited form of emphysema, and even many cancers are believed to be
caused by protein misfolding.

You can download the two here:
SETI@home - http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php
Folding@home - http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

Both are also available in Linux and Mac versions ;-)) No need to mention MS-W.

Download them today! Write about them in your blogs and homepages! Put
them in your email signatures! Let's get crunching!

Things Are Shaking Up

I'm confused. What do I really want?

They opened up another opportunity within the company. I have another
chance at garbbing a promotion. They opened this apprenticeship
program to train interested applicants for jobs in quality assurance.
As always, they say not everyone will make it. At the end of the
three-month training, you either get in the pool of would-be QA'ers or
you get booted and go back to your old job.

While my head tells me to go for it, my heart says no. I've applied
twice for other jobs within the company and the experience left me
with nothing more but a deflated ego and a lot of disappointment. As
it is though, I enjoy my job. Makes me wonder why I was applying for
other departments. Maybe the thought of doing the same job for the
last four years is making me jaded. Hmmm?
